The Dirty Dozen SEO Mistakes Agents Make
- Not thinking about your URL or website address. Your URL helps tell the search engine what your site is about.
- Not thinking about your website Title. Your Title should also be “keyword rich”. This is the second most important area for the search engines to read.
- Buying several domain names is a good investment (if they are truly keyword rich), but pointing them all to your website will add no value as search engines only read pages with content on them. If you want to use each of them with a one-page landing page, that would help.
- Not remembering that your website and blog site should be tied together. The keyword phrases that you use in your website should also be used in your blog site.
- Lack of an RSS feed or social media. Allow people to subscribe to your blog and share it with their friends.
- Not purchasing your domain name for more than 5 years. Most people don’t understand that Google interprets a domain name that has less than a year before expiration as a possible spammed site, and will this penalize you. Always buy your website domain names for 5 years or more.
- Not using “anchor text” for your links. Using a link that says “Click Here” is not good anchor text and tells the search engines nothing about where it is going. However “Denver Luxury Homes” tells the search engines exactly what will be found at this link.
- Targeting the wrong keywords. It sounds great to you, but do other people search for those terms?
- Having too much “Flash” or java script taking up too much space. The major search engines can’t read these flashy images but only text.
- Not using well thought out sub-domain titles. Search engines read your pages by starting at the page name such as DenverLuxuryHomes.com/foreclosures.html, or the foreclosure page of your site. The problem is that many website vendors use templates that name all the pages in advance telling the search engines nothing about what they’re about to read and index. Thus the same page might show as DenverLuxuryHomes.com/sub_page.php?spID=21&p=5.
- Not maintaining your website. Search engines and people want fresh content.
- Lack of, or poor use of heading tags. Heading tags are like bold paragraph header text that stands out and tells the search engines what is important on your web page.

I found this article very useful, I didn’t realise that not buying your domain name for more than five years could effect it unfavorably. Thanks for sharing
